Czech man arrested in Croatia following explosion that resulted in the death of his 9-year-old child

ZAGREB, Croatia — A Czech man has been detained in Croatia for allegedly allowing his 9-year-old child to take an explosive device from a military zone which later killed the child, Croatian police said on Friday.

The 46-year-old man on Wednesday entered a restricted military training ground in central Croatia without authorization where he allowed his child to pick up the explosive device and bring it back to the family car, said a police statement.

When the car later broke down along the way, the child took out the explosive device which then exploded, killing the child and wounding three people, the statement added. It was not immediately clear what kind of device the child had found.

Police did not reveal the sex of the child, though some reports said it was a boy.

The father is facing charges of “grave criminal acts against public safety” in connection with “endangering lives and property by a dangerous act or device,” police said.

Croatia, with its Adriatic Sea coastline, is a favorite tourist destination that is packed with visitors from the Czech Republic and other European countries during the summer season. The explosion happened on Thursday in an area close to the central coastal town of Zadar.

A tragic incident has recently occurred in Croatia, where a Czech man was arrested following an explosion that resulted in the death of his 9-year-old child. The incident took place in the town of Split, where the man and his family were on vacation.

According to reports, the man was handling fireworks inside their rented apartment when the explosion occurred. The blast was so powerful that it caused extensive damage to the apartment and resulted in the death of the man’s young child. The man himself sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities in Croatia were quick to respond to the incident and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the explosion. It was soon discovered that the man had been in possession of illegal fireworks, which he had brought with him from the Czech Republic. The use of fireworks is strictly regulated in Croatia, and it is illegal to possess or use them without the proper permits.

The man was subsequently arrested and is now facing charges of negligence resulting in death. The tragic loss of his child has left the man devastated, and he is currently being held in custody pending further investigation.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers associated with fireworks and the importance of following safety regulations when handling them. Fireworks are not toys and should only be used by trained professionals in controlled environments. The consequences of mishandling fireworks can be severe, as evidenced by this tragic event.

Our thoughts go out to the family of the young child who lost their life in this senseless tragedy. We hope that this incident will serve as a wake-up call to others about the dangers of fireworks and the importance of using them responsibly. Let us all take this opportunity to educate ourselves and others about firework safety to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
