Over 2.5 Million Honda and Acura Cars Recalled for Fuel Pump Defect

Honda and its luxury brand Acura have recently announced a massive recall of over 2.5 million vehicles due to a fuel pump defect. This recall affects various models manufactured between 2018 and 2020, including sedans, SUVs, and minivans. The defect poses a potential safety risk as it could cause the engine to stall, increasing the chances of an accident.

The fuel pump defect is caused by a faulty impeller that may become deformed over time, leading to reduced fuel flow and pressure. This can result in the engine not receiving enough fuel, causing it to stall unexpectedly while driving. Honda has received numerous reports of vehicles stalling, but fortunately, no accidents or injuries have been reported so far.

The recall affects a wide range of Honda and Acura models, including popular vehicles such as the Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, Fit, HR-V, Odyssey, Passport, Pilot, and Ridgeline. Acura models affected by the recall include the ILX, MDX, RDX, RLX, and TLX. Owners of these vehicles are advised to contact their local Honda or Acura dealership as soon as possible to schedule a free repair.

To address the issue, Honda will replace the faulty fuel pumps with new ones that have an improved design. The replacement parts are expected to be available in late summer 2020. In the meantime, Honda recommends that owners keep their fuel tanks at least half full to reduce the risk of stalling.

This recall is not limited to the United States; it also affects Honda and Acura vehicles in other countries such as Canada, Mexico, and South Korea. The total number of affected vehicles worldwide is estimated to be around 2,587,000.

Honda will notify affected owners by mail starting in late July 2020. The company has also set up a dedicated website where owners can enter their vehicle identification number (VIN) to check if their vehicle is included in the recall. Additionally, Honda’s customer service hotline is available for any questions or concerns regarding the recall.

It is crucial for Honda and Acura owners to take this recall seriously and have their vehicles inspected and repaired as soon as possible. Stalling while driving can be extremely dangerous, especially at high speeds or in heavy traffic. By addressing the fuel pump defect promptly, owners can ensure the safety of themselves, their passengers, and other road users.

This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of regular vehicle maintenance and staying informed about any recalls or safety issues that may arise. Car manufacturers have a responsibility to promptly address and rectify any defects that could compromise the safety of their customers. As consumers, it is essential to stay vigilant and proactive in ensuring the safety and reliability of our vehicles.
