Former President Donald Trump has once again made headlines with his recent call for jail time for Rep. Liz Cheney and other members of the Jan. 6 committee. Trump’s statement comes as tensions continue to rise between the committee and the former president over their investigation into the Capitol riot that took place on January 6, 2021.

In a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump accused Cheney and other members of the committee of engaging in a “witch hunt” against him and his supporters. He went on to say that they should be “put in jail” for their actions.

Cheney, who was one of the few Republicans to vote in favor of impeaching Trump for his role in inciting the Capitol riot, has been a vocal critic of the former president and has called for a thorough investigation into the events of January 6. In response to Trump’s comments, Cheney tweeted that she would not be deterred in her efforts to uncover the truth about the attack on the Capitol.

The Jan. 6 committee, which is made up of both Democrats and Republicans, has been conducting a thorough investigation into the events leading up to and following the Capitol riot. They have been interviewing witnesses, reviewing documents, and gathering evidence in an effort to determine what exactly happened on that fateful day.

Trump’s call for jail time for Cheney and other members of the committee has been met with criticism from both sides of the political aisle. Some have accused him of trying to intimidate and silence those who are seeking to hold him accountable for his actions, while others have defended his right to speak out against what he sees as a politically motivated investigation.

As the investigation into the Capitol riot continues, it remains to be seen how Trump’s comments will impact the work of the Jan. 6 committee and whether they will lead to any further legal action against Cheney and other members. One thing is clear, however: the tensions between Trump and the committee show no signs of abating anytime soon.
